According to L’Equipe, Liverpool are one of the Premier League clubs interested in signing Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo this summer.
Liverpool will be officially welcoming their brand new manager Arne Slot tomorrow and there is no doubt that the former Feyenoord boss will be keen to make a great first impression quickly.
The manager will have some big shoes to fill as he attempts to replicate and perhaps even better what Jurgen Klopp has achieved on the red side of Merseyside over his tenure ahead of him.
To do so, he must build and develop his very own squad and tactical philosophy at Anfield with a clear direction and show the confidence to take control of an already incredibly successful dressing room to inspire them to win again.
Bringing in fresh perspectives and improving roles with new talent could be the push that some players need to perform to the high standards that supporters have come to expect under Klopp.
As a result, the new report from French news outlet L’Equipe that Liverpool are interested in Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo could be the perfect opportunity to add even more competition in the final third.
The report claims that Liverpool are not the only Premier League club interested in snapping up the services of the 24-year-old star, as Newcastle United are also in the mix.
Should Liverpool sign Bryan Mbeumo?
There is no doubt that Mbeumo has been a standout performer in the Premier League this season and has stepped up for the Bees during Ivan Toney’s absence in the first half of the season.
Over 25 Premier League appearances, the Cameroon international has scored nine goals, registered six assists and created six big chances, as well as averaging 1.3 key passes, 2.1 shots on goal and 4.2 duels won per game, as per SofaScore.
Not only that, the attacking titan has earned high praise from his manager, Thomas Frank, who waxed lyrical about his talented winger (via The Athletic):
“I praised him a couple of weeks ago because he drives training with his attitude and work ethic and determination to want to get better and win,” said the head coach.
“He’s definitely a leader in the making.”
Liverpool are already stacked with talented attackers including Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo, however, with goalscoring a real struggle for the Reds this season, there is certainly an opportunity for a more clinical finisher to stake his claim to a starting spot in the squad next season.
With that being said, it will be interesting to see whether Liverpool will act upon their interest and further invest in the forward line this summer, but it would be a clear indicator that the club are not confident that the current attacking threat are able to handle the load in front of them.
