Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has reportedly rejected a “massive” offer from Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr, preferring to stay at Anfield instead.
The Brazilian has been an incredible performer for the Reds ever since joining in the summer of 2018, outlining his status as arguably the world’s best player in his position.
Alisson’s arrival, coupled with Virgil van Dijk’s earlier in the same year, transformed Liverpool as a team under Jurgen Klopp, inspiring them to both Champions League and Premier League glory.
The 31-year-old remains as important as ever for the Reds, so much so that the Arne Slot era will start with him as one of the first names on the team sheet.
The idea of losing Alisson any time in the near future is concerning for any Liverpool supporter, and a significant update has emerged regarding him.
According to Football Insider, the Brazil international has turned down a huge offer from Al-Nassr, not wanting to depart Anfield at this point in his career:
“Alisson Becker has rejected a ‘massive’ offer to quit Liverpool and sign for Saudi club Al-Nassr this summer, sources have told Football Insider. Al-Nassr are in the market for a new goalkeeper, but the Brazil international has no plans to join the Saudi Pro League club after turning down the opportunity.
“Sources say the Middle Eastern side have now turned their attention towards signing Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, 34, once the transfer window reopens.”
Our thoughts on Alisson staying at Liverpool…
This is unquestionably great news from a Liverpool perspective, with Alisson almost impossible to replace, considering he is one of the greatest goalkeepers of his generation.
Granted, the Reds actually did well without him for a chunk of action last season, with Caoimhin Kelleher performing admirably, but his presence between the sticks is unrivalled.
He makes everything look so easy, with his world-class positional sense meaning he rarely has to make saves for the cameras, and he gives the whole team a feeling of confidence in front of him.
The hope is that Alisson stays at Liverpool for many more years – there is no reason why he can’t remain a fantastic ‘keeper all the way through his 30s, and he is contracted until 2027 – as he cements his reputation as a true Reds great.
