Liverpool winger Ben Doak is “attracting interest” from a number of clubs ahead of a potential loan move away this summer, according to a new update from journalist James Pearce.
The young Scot has emerged as one of the Reds’ most exciting talents in recent years, impressing with his blistering pace and unpredictability out wide.
Unfortunately, Doak’s progress was halted by injury problems last season, limiting him to only one appearance and 13 minutes of action in the Premier League, but he has managed 10 appearances for Liverpool overall.
The 18-year-old will be hoping to impress new manager Arne Slot this summer, showing that he should be a key part of his plans, but it could be that the Dutchman feels a loan move would make sense for his development.
Taking to X, Pearce claimed that a temporary move away from Liverpool could be on the cards for Doak, with Leicester City and Southampton among the clubs who are in the mix to sign him:
“Ben Doak attracting interest from a number of PL clubs as #LFC consider sanctioning a loan move for him. Leicester City and Southampton among those keen to secure his services. Doak desperate to play regularly after injury issues of last season.”
Our thoughts on Liverpool allowing Doak to leave on loan this summer…
A loan move definitely has the potential to be the right decision with Doak, especially with last season’s aforementioned injury woes halting his development a little.
It is hard to see how the winger will feature regularly under Slot, considering the likes of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo are already strong wide options, and further signings can’t be ruled out, too.
Allowing Doak to leave on loan for a year would give him a better chance of enjoying more regular football, meaning he could then return to Anfield next summer a more mature footballer.
It is never easy to predict how a young player’s career will pan out, but there is no question that the Reds teenager has vast potential, and if he can improve his end product, he has all the raw ingredients to be a future star.
