Liverpool are reportedly interested in making a move for Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin this summer, should Alisson seal a switch to Saudi Arabia.
The Reds are yet to do any significant transfer business in the current window, but Arne Slot will be eyeing reinforcements once Euro 2024 is done and dusted.
While Liverpool have been linked with bringing in plenty of fresh faces, there is also the threat of losing some of their current superstars, one of which is Alisson.
The Brazilian has emerged as a rumoured target for Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr, but the Merseysiders will be desperate to keep hold of one of the first names on Slot’s team sheet.
Should Alisson leave, however, a superb replacement would need to come in, and according to HITC, Liverpool are keen on signing Lunin as a potential successor:
“Liverpool are looking at potential replacements for Alisson Becker amid Saudi Arabian interest in the Brazil international with Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin one of those under consideration.
“HITC understands that, one year after Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho all left Anfield for a new start in the Middle East, Saudi Arabian clubs are now sniffing around one player new head coach Arne Slot will be desperate to retain.”
Our thoughts on Liverpool signing Lunin this summer…
Lunin is a highly impressive young goalkeeper who has already tasted Champions League success with Madrid last season, making eight appearances in the competition in the absence of the injured Thibaut Courtois.
Carlo Ancelotti has described his ‘keeper as an “excellent” player in the recent past, clearly valuing him greatly, and at 25, his tally of 13 caps for Ukraine should only rise significantly in the coming years.
For all of Lunin’s undeniable quality, keeping hold of Alisson still easily takes precedence for Liverpool this summer, with the Reds legend arguably the best player in the world in his position.
There are still many years in him yet, too, so to lose him at this point in his career would be an enormous blow for Slot, and it would be a shock if he decided to move on.
