A big update has emerged regarding Luis Diaz’s future at Liverpool this summer, with the Reds now willing to listen to potential offers for him.

The 27-year-old has been a good signing for the Merseysiders since arriving from Porto back in January 2022, providing quality out wide, not to mention a superb work ethic.

Diaz has arguably become a more divisive figure at Anfield over the past 12 months or so, however, with some growing frustrated with his lack of elite-level end product.

In fairness, the Colombian still scored 13 times for Liverpool last season, chipping in at some important moments, but he was also guilty of missing some huge chances at key times, such as the one-on-one against Manchester City at Anfield.

Diaz has been linked with a move to Barcelona in the current transfer window, in what is seen as a dream transfer at some point in his career, although he has stated that he is happy at Anfield currently.

Now, a new report from Football Insider claims that Liverpool “will listen to offers” for the Colombia international, should significant bids arrive for him in the near future.

It is also stated that “Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona are keen on a potential deal for the former Porto star”, with the Reds “looking to improve their winger options.”

Our thoughts on the latest update on Diaz’s future…

The idea of Diaz leaving Liverpool certainly isn’t disastrous, considering he hasn’t hit the world-class level that Sadio Mane once did out on the left wing.

As mentioned, he isn’t ruthless in the final third, which prevents him from being a truly great player, but on the slip side, he remains an excellent footballer who can be an asset for Arne Slot next season and beyond.

The key to Diaz’s Reds future is if they can find an upgrade on him, with Anthony Gordon arguably representing one, amid interest in the Newcastle winger and boyhood Liverpool supporter.

While Diaz only managed eight goals and five assists in the Premier League in 2023/24, Gordon bagged 11 and 10 respectively, playing in a worse side at the same time. That suggests he could be a better source of end product for Slot.

It would still arguably be a surprise if Liverpool’s vibrant No.7 was sold this summer, but if he does stay put, he needs to find another level if he wants to be considered one of the best players in Europe in his position.
