According to Express Sport, Liverpool’s new manager Arne Slot has made Napoli striker Victor Osimhen at the top of his wishlist.

Liverpool have not made a single new signing this summer after appointing Jurgen Klopp’s successor Arne Slot and building a brand new backroom set-up earlier this year.

The Reds are gearing up for a brand new chapter on Merseyside with an American pre-season tour already in full swing ahead of the Premier League’s return next month.

While Slot will be fully focused on getting to know the squad he has to work with over the upcoming campaign, new sporting director Richard Hughes will be hard at work establishing which new additions could add quality to an already impressive group, alongside Michael Edwards who has returned to the club as operations director.

It has been reported this morning by the Express that the new Liverpool boss has put Napoli striker Victor Osimhen at the top of his wishlist and it is claimed that FSG are ready to hand over the club record-breaking funds to give the Dutchman what he wants.

The Italian outfit are keen to take a huge fee in order to justify parting ways with one of their most talented players, and it is noted the club owners have a valuation of around £110m.

Ligue 1 winners Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on snapping up the star goal-scorer this summer, so if Liverpool do put themselves forward they will need to act fast and with strong intention to meet the demands of Napoli.

Will Liverpool sign Victor Osimhen this summer?

There is no doubt that finishing has become a weakness in the Liverpool forward line over the last 12 months and great improvements in performances from the attacking threat will be crucial in Slot’s first season.

With a return of just 20 goals in 65 Premier League appearances for Liverpool’s current record signing, Darwin Nunez, has not represented a good return on investment so far, and a move for Osimhen would indicate that the Uruguayan star would not be considered as the long-term solution at Anfield.

Not only that, Mohamed Salah is now in his final 12 months of his contract and at 32 years old is coming to the latter stages of his career, so finding a future prospect who is prolific and reliable enough to make up for his huge amount of goal contributions when his time does finally come to an end, will be absolutely crucial.

Over 25 Serie A appearances last season, Osimhen scored 15 goals, registered three assists and created five big chances, as well as averaging a goal every 133 minutes and having 3.6 shots on goal per game, as per SofaScore.

While the 25-year-old Nigerian hitman would be an extremely desirable signing, it seems farfetched when considering his transfer valuation and knowing that FSG do not operate at these prices in the market, so it would be interesting to see just how desperately the club feels it is necessary to splash the cash.

With that being said, Osimhen to Liverpool is definitely one for supporters to keep an eye on, especially if the club decide to part ways with Nunez before the transfer window closes in a few weeks time.
