According to Tutto Juve, Liverpool are in the race to sign Hoffenheim star Maximilian Beier and the Bundesliga giants have now set a price.
Liverpool are out on their pre-season tour of the USA with new manager Arne Slot, but the Stateside fixtures haven’t distracted from the fact that the club is yet to confirm a new signing this summer.
The Reds have a squad stacked with trophy winners, but adding depth in crucial positions and preparing for a future without particular star players has been a pressing concern for the Anfield faithful.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are all now in the last 12 months of their contracts at the club, so it will be important to either tie them down with new deals or plan for a future without them.
As a result of pending contract offers, it will be crucial to get a better understanding of which of these three first-choice players want to remain on the red side of Merseyside, as replacing even just one of them would be an incredibly difficult task for sporting director Richard Hughes.
It has been reported over the weekend by Tutto Juve that Liverpool remain interested in signing Hoffenheim forward Maximilian Beier, a player who is also attracting interest from Manchester United.
As per the report, the Bundesliga club would expect a fee of around €40m (£33.7m) to part ways with Beier this summer with Atletico Madrid and Juventus also joining Liverpool and Man United in their interest, as of yet no club has met the fee.
Should Liverpool sign Maximilian Beier?
Tenacity and consistency in front of goal is something that Liverpool were severely lacking last season, so it will be up to Slot to decide if he believes that the current crop of attacking talent is capable of improving.
Only Erling Haaland (34) missed more big chances than Darwin Nunez (27) in the Premier League last season and now that Salah’s future hangs in the balance, it wouldn’t be a bad idea for the club to look at investing in proven goal-scoring talent.
Over 33 Bundesliga appearances last season, Beier – who was dubbed “versatile” by BILD journalist Christian Falk – scored 16 goals, registered one assist and created four big chances, as well as averaging 2.5 shots on goal per game and scoring every 155 minutes, as per SofaScore.
Only Salah (18) scored more league goals than Beier last season, with Nunez coming in second with 11 league goals, so there is no doubt that if the Germany international could continue his goal-scoring form at Anfield, he would become a very valuable asset for Slot over next season and beyond.
With that being said, the proposed price tag of £33.7m would not be out of reach for Liverpool to meet if they are serious about signing Beier, and at just 21-year-old he could provide the Reds with a long-term solution to their weaknesses in the attacking threat.
