Liverpool are looking to sign Federico Chiesa from Juventus before the end of the summer transfer window and Fabrizio Romano has now dropped a fresh update.

The 26-year-old has been mentioned as a target for the Reds many times in the past, but on Monday, their most concrete interest yet emerged.

Romano broke the news that Liverpool have made an approach to sign Chiesa from Juve, taking to X to say the following:

“Liverpool make initial approach for Federico Chiesa as possible option for final days. Chiesa, available on the market as Juve want to find a solution and LFC made contact today. Liverpool exploring conditions of the deal as Chiesa would be keen on PL move.”

Chiesa could come in on the cheap, even for as little as £12m, which could be a key reason for sporting director Richard Hughes seeing him as an exciting option, despite his injury problems down the years.

Now, Romano has provided another update on the situation, once again reporting the news on X, saying that Juve are happy to sell the Italian this week:

“More on Federico Chiesa exclusive story. Understand Chiesa has given his full availability to join Liverpool after initial talks. He’s excited about this possibility and contract won’t be an issue. Juventus want Chiesa to leave and asking price is around €15m. Deal ON.”

Our thoughts on Liverpool signing Chiesa…

There is a fair argument to say that there are more pressing areas of the pitch where Liverpool need to strengthen this summer, from a deep-lying midfielder to another centre-back, but this feels like too good an opportunity for the Reds to miss.

Granted, Chiesa has been considered an injury-prone player for some time, but he still made 33 appearances in Serie A last season, 25 of which were starts.

The Italy winger would be considered a gamble, but he possesses match-winning ability with his driving runs and end product, scoring 32 goals in 131 appearances for Juve.

He is also a right-sided attacker, meaning he could be a strong deputy to Mohamed Salah, allowing the Egyptian more of a breather, which may be needed now that he is 32 years of age.

The signing of Chiesa may ultimately not work out, but given the price tag that is being mooted, it is worth taking a punt on him.
