Liverpool winger Luis Diaz will not be joining Manchester City this summer, according to a key update from reliable journalist Sam Lee.

The Colombian joined the Reds back in January, injecting much-needed life into their season, which culminated in them nearly winning an unprecedented quadruple.

Since then, Diaz has been a good signing overall, even though a knee injury curtailed his progress in 2023/23 and he has received some criticism for some erratic end product.

On Tuesday, a shock rumour emerged suggesting that Diaz could make the move from Liverpool to City this summer, in what would be a hugely controversial piece of transfer business.

Taking to X, though, The Athletic‘s Lee poured cold water on the rumour, caliming that there is “no truth” to it whatsoever:

“Understand there is no truth in the Luis Diaz links. That was genuinely fun for 15 minutes.”
Our thoughts on the Diaz to Man City rumour…
To see Diaz move to the Etihad in the current transfer window would have been a huge surprise, considering the Premier League rivalry that has existed between the two clubs in recent years.
While the 27-year-old may not always be perfect, he remains a top-quality footballer who has so much to offer at Liverpool, topping the pre-season scoring charts with four goals and earning praise from Jurgen Klopp in the past, who said:

“What a boy, what a story, what a player but he should have scored! He agrees probably. The speed he has is insane. He gets our football 100 per cent. We thought we saw that at Porto. He fits like a glove to our football and that’s really really special.”

It does feel as though Diaz needs to find another level if he wants to be considered a world-class player, but at 27, he still has plenty of years left in him to excel under Arne Slot.
There does seem to be a certain inevitablity about the Colombia international moving to Barcelona eventually, should the chance arise in the coming years, but while that would be understandable to an extent, trading Liverpool for City would not go down well at all among the fanbase.
