A significant update has emerged regarding the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool, with his preference made perfectly clear.
The 25-year-old has become one of the leading right-backs of his generation, producing a level of creativity rarely seen in that role down the years, bagging 83 assists and scoring 19 goals for the Reds.
Few players in the Premier League possess Alexander-Arnold’s vision, whether short or long passes, or crosses for that matter, and he is already arguably a legend for his boyhood club, having won the Champions League, Premier League and many other trophies.
The Liverpool superstar is out of contract at the end of this season, however, and there has been no progress made when it comes to him signing a new deal.
With Real Madrid believed to be hovering for Alexander-Arnold, this has been especially concerning, but now a fresh update has dropped.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool’s vice-captain is “more than happy to stay” at Anfield for “the foreseeable future”, with his preference to “sign a new contract with Liverpool and extend his stay with the football club.”
Our thoughts on this latest Trent update…
This is a massive positive for Liverpool, with the idea of losing Alexander-Arnold at this point in his career something that doesn’t bear thinking about.
It is understandable why a move to Madrid would appeal, given some of the world-class talent in their squad, but it looks as though he wants to spend his career with the Reds.
That being said, the club need to match Alexander-Arnold’s ambition, giving him the wages he demands and ensuring that he is seen as one of the most important players at the club for the next five or six years.
While tying down Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah is also vital, the right-back is significantly younger than the pair, so there is every chance that he will still be an elite force long after they are gone.
It is now a case of Liverpool offering Alexander-Arnold a whopping deal and coming to an agreement, ensuring they retain the services of one of the most technically gifted footballers in Europe for many more years to come.
