Liverpool have suffered an injury concern regarding a “world-class” player on international duty, acting as a worry to Reds head coach Arne Slot.
The Merseysiders have won all three of their Premier League games to start the 2024/25 season, with plenty of positivity on show under Slot.
Replacing Jurgen Klopp was always going to be a daunting task for the Dutchman, but while it is still early days, he has shone so much in his opening few months in charge.
Domestic action has now made way for the international break, which is a chore in the eyes of many supporters, who will be desperate that Slot’s squad return fully fit and injury-free.
There is concern surrounding Alexis Mac Allister, however, who was taken off during his side’s 3-0 win over Chile in the early hours of Friday morning, having opened the scoring for his country.
On X, This Is Anfield‘s Jack Lusby confirmed that the 25-year-old is now a doubt for Argentina’s next game against Luis Diaz’s Colombia on Tuesday:
“Alexis Mac Allister with a lovely goal for Argentina vs. Chile overnight. Also came off after a heavy knock, with Lionel Scaloni unsure if he’ll be available vs. Colombia on Tuesday. Harvey Elliott has already returned to LFC with injury.”
Our thoughts on Mac Allister’s injury…
It goes without saying that Liverpool fans will be worried about this update, considering what a magnificent signing Mac Allister has been since he arrived from Brighton last summer.
The Argentine has combined elite technical ability with a brilliant work ethic, making 46 appearances in 2023/24, and Slot could well view him as one of the first names on his team sheet.
The hope is that Mac Allister was taken off as more of a precautionary measure than anything against Chile, but the fact that Lionel Scaloni has doubted his involvement next summer suggests he has picked up a genuine issue.
Liverpool host Nottingham Forest in the league next Saturday, so Slot will be sweating that he has the World Cup winner available, having been hailed as “world-class” by Garth Crooks last season.
