Arne Slot has provided an important injury update regarding Andy Robertson, following Liverpool’s 2-1 victory away to Wolves on Saturday.
The Reds went top of the Premier League after a narrow win at Molineux, in what proved to be a patchy performance by Slot’s side.
Ibrahima Konate opened the scoring with a bullet header just before half-time, but Rayan Ait-Nouri equalised after an error from the Frenchman.
Thankfully, Wolves were only level for a few minutes, with Mohamed Salah burying a penalty after Diogo Jota was fouled, sealing all three points.
Robertson had to go off late on, however, acting as a concern for Liverpool, but speaking after the game, Slot allayed any fears surrounding an upcoming injury absence:
“I don’t expect this to be a big problem, although you never know, but I think he just got a knock,” said Slot.
“End phase of the game, maybe he was a bit tired as well because the guy who came in – Forbs, I knew him, of course, from the Dutch competition – he made it a real fight for him.
“He got a bit of a knock but I’m expecting him to be in training on Monday again, but let’s wait [and see].”
Our thoughts on Robertson’s performance at Wolves…
This is a big relief for both Robertson and Liverpool, with the Scot one of his side’s standout performers at Wolves, not starting slowly like so many.
The Scotland captain deserved an assist after putting a lovely cross onto the foot of Dominik Szoboszlai, but the Hungarian was somehow denied by Sam Johnstone with the goal gaping.
Robertson also completed 89% of his passes and made one interception, going about his duties in a reliable fashion while some of his teammates struggled to hit top gear.
There is an argument to say that the 30-year-old isn’t quite the relentlessly brilliant player he once was, but he is still Liverpool’s undisputed first-choice left-back and he will be a big figure this season.
Eventually, a top-quality replacement for Robertson must be found, but there is no reason why he can’t be a great option for several more years.
