Liverpool are reportedly battling a number of other Premier League clubs for the signing of a “fantastic” player who could be worth more than £40m.

The Reds couldn’t have asked for a much better start to the Arne Slot era, barring the shock 1-0 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest last month.

Liverpool are top of the Premier League table after six matches, having won the other five games, as well as beating AC Milan and West Ham in the Champions League and EFL Cup respectively.

That’s not to say that new signings aren’t required, however, whether that be in January or next summer, and the Reds are being linked with a move for a big talent.

According to Give Me Sport, Liverpool are interested in signing Brentford attacker Bryan Mbeumo, with Newcastle United and Arsenal also in the mix.

The Bees are said to be “desperate” to keep hold of the Cameroonian, though, which is why they are demanding more than the £40m they received for Ivan Toney, who has completed a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli.

Our thoughts on Liverpool signing Mbeumo…

Mbeumo looks like a perfect long-term replacement for Bryan Mbeumo at Liverpool, even though the Egyptian King will hopefully not be leaving Anfield any time soon.

The 25-year-old is arguably one of the Premier League’s best attacking wide players, already scoring five goals in six league games this season. One of those was an impressive strike against Tottenham, with Spurs star James Maddison even heaping praise on it, saying:

“To be fair, it was a fantastic finish from Mbeumo, it will be up there for Goal of the Month”.

Mbeumo has scored once against Liverpool in the past, coming in a 3-1 win for the Bees back in January 2023, and his consistent end product and pace out wide could be ideal for Slot.

That being said, another attacking player isn’t essential for the time being, especially with Federico Chiesa arriving in the summer, so the Brentford star should only be looked at if Salah moves on in 2025, which many supporters will be desperate not to see happen.
