Liverpool are one of a number of clubs eyeing a move for Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo, according to a fresh transfer rumour regarding his future.
The Reds may have had a quiet summer in the transfer market, but the signing of Federico Chiesa has made them even more imposing in an attacking sense.
Arne Slot now has a wealth of options at his disposal in the final third, but a new update suggests that Liverpool may still be eyeing another wide man.
That’s according to HITC, who claim that the Merseysiders are “keen” on acquiring the signature of Mbeumo from Brentford, but they aren’t alone in expressing an interest.
Arsenal, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Newcastle United are all believed to be in the mix, though, highlighting what a sought-after player the 25-year-old is.
It is also claimed that the Cameroonian is “in no rush to sign a new contract” with Brentford at the moment, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2026. That means next year could see the Bees forced into a decision, considering he will only have 12 months remaining and they won’t want to lose him on the cheap.
Our thoughts on Liverpool signing Mbeumo…
Mbeumo could be a wonderful option for Liverpool, having scored 25 goals and registered 21 assists in 101 Premier League appearances, as well as netting four times in 16 caps for Cameroon.
While Chiesa coming in has lessened the need for a new wide player, if the option arises for the Reds to sign the Brentford ace, they should take their chance, perhaps viewing him as Mohamed Salah’s long-term successor out on the right wing.
Mbeumo’s current boss, Thomas Frank, has heaped praise on his current player this year, too, saying of him: “It’s brilliant I must say. He’s been brilliant for us this year in the Premier League. He came back from a minor injury, we knew that he wanted to play ready for Tuesday. And three quality finishes, very composed.”
At 25, Mbeumo still has so much more to offer in his career and he could find another level if he joins a club of Liverpool’s stature, playing alongside superior players than his current colleagues.
