A “superb” Premier League player is now keen on joining Liverpool, seeing them as a “bigger club” than another team who want to sign him.

The Reds’ impressive start to life under Arne Slot continued on Wednesday evening, following a 5-1 win at home to West Ham in the EFL Cup third round.

The attacking quality at Liverpool’s disposal was clear, with Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo scoring twice and Mohamed Salah also getting on the scoresheet.

At the other end of the pitch, there was a feeling that another centre-back was needed during the summer transfer window, considering Virgil van Dijk is now 33 and Ibrahima Konate is injury-prone. Not only that, but Jarell Quansah is still a raw talent.

No defender came in, however, and it remains to be seen whether that will look like a big mistake come the end of the season.

According to Football Insider, Crystal Palace and England star Marc Guehi wants to join Liverpool, considering them a “bigger club” than Newcastle United, who tried to snap him up throughout the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old has stayed put at Selhurst Park for the time being but has told his friends that he “would jump” at the chance to represent the Reds.

Our thoughts on Liverpool signing Guehi…

Guehi could be a brilliant signing for Liverpool, considering how his stock has risen in recent months, following an excellent Euro 2024 campaign with England.

He has taken that form into the new season, with Alan Shearer praising him in action for the Three Lions earlier this month, saying:

“He looked good, didn’t he? I thought his passing was really good. You know when you’re fizzing it into the middle and having to get through and break the line. I thought some of his passing was superb. He didn’t have to defend too much, but then you’re on the ball and with possession, you need someone like that.”

One downside is that Guehi would likely want to play most weeks, but given the fact that both he and Van Dijk are left-sided central defenders, that wouldn’t happen.

Palace will also demand huge money for the Englishman’s services, so for all of his undoubted ability, it could be that Liverpool find a greater value-for-money option elsewhere.
