Liverpool are believed to be interested in completing the signing of an “incredible” player, seeing him as a possible replacement for a current hero.
The Reds are heading into October top of the Premier League, with Arne Slot making a highly impressive start to life as head coach.
The Dutchman will know the importance of new signings, however, especially as Federico Chiesa was the only addition straight away this summer.
According to a fresh report from Caught Offside, Liverpool are keen on signing Sevilla ace Juanlu Sanchez, with the Merseysiders said to be “one of several Premier League teams monitoring the situation”.
The update goes on to state that the La Liga side are “willing to consider offers of around €25m (£20.8m) for the 21-year-old next summer as 2025 would be the ideal time to sell the versatile star should he fail to pen new terms at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.”
This comes amid uncertainty surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future, with the 25-year-old out of contract next summer but not yet agreeing an extension.
Our thoughts on Liverpool signing Juanlu Sanchez…
At 21, Juanlu is a player with a big future in the game, having made three appearances for Spain’s Olympic team earlier this summer. He has been lauded by Sevilla manager Garcia Pimienta, who has said of him:
“He has played as an inside midfielder [before], we were short on space in midfield due to Saul [Niguez]’s suspension and [Albert Sambi] Lokonga’s injury. I spoke to him, I knew he could do well in that position. Juanlu has an incredible present and a better future.”
Capable of playing in midfield or at right-back, Juanlu’s versatility could appeal greatly to Slot, but if he is seen as predominantly playing in the latter role, he should only be an option if Alexander-Arnold leaves.
Liverpool already have a brilliant backup to him in Conor Bradley, so signing a third right-back would make little sense now.
For all Juanlu’s potential, the far more ideal outcome is to see Alexander-Arnold sign a new deal and the Reds not require a new right-back. Still, if the Sevilla man did come in, he would be a long-term acquisition with so much potential, having already made 45 appearances for his club side.
