Liverpool make the trip to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime, but one player is a doubt for the game, according to Arne Slot.

The Reds have won eight out of nine matches with Slot in charge, in all competitions, with the shock league defeat at home to Nottingham Forest the only anomaly to date.

The latest victory came in the Champions League against Bologna in midweek, with goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah earning Liverpool a 2-0 triumph.

Next up is Palace at Selhurst Park this weekend, which has the potential to be an awkward outing, despite the Eagles’ struggles so far this season.

One player who was unavailable for the Bologna game for Federico Chiesa, and taking to X after seeing Slot in his pre-match press conference, Lynch said the Italian remains a “doubt” on Saturday, quoting Liverpool’s head coach.

It is hoped that the winger will train with his teammates on Friday afternoon, but even if he does, he may not do enough to prove that he is fully fit.

Our thoughts on Chiesa being out against Palace…

Not having Chiesa to call upon this weekend would be a setback for Liverpool, but he is still easing into life at Anfield, so won’t be as big a loss as others.

That being said, his direct running could be a potent weapon from the substitutes’ bench when legs are tiring, so having that option would be ideal.

Assuming Chiesa is out, it will be interesting to see how Slot uses his attack at Palace, with Diogo Jota arguably likely to come in for Darwin Nunez, with the latter not taking his chance to impress from the start against Bologna.

Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz should again take up the wide berths, with both in excellent form, but Cody Gakpo is a great option who is pushing hard to get more minutes under his belt.

For now, the Dutchman will probably have to settle for another cameo role, but if he keeps performing in the same way he has this season, there is every chance that he will heap more pressure on Diaz.
