Liverpool are believed to have found a potential successor to Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back, according to a fresh transfer update.
The future of Alexander-Arnold is a huge talking point at Anfield currently, with the 26-year-old not exactly doing a huge amount to allay fears that he could be on the move after this season.
In recent days, the Liverpool vice-captain has spoken of his ambition to win the Ballon d’Or, which does arguably hint at him eyeing a move to Real Madrid, saying:
“I believe I can. I want to be the first full-back to ever do it. It’s only the morning after you retire that you’re able to look in the mirror and say, ‘I gave it everything I got’.
“It doesn’t matter how many trophies you win, or how many medals you’ve got. It matters what you give to the game and if you reach your full potential.”
Should Alexander-Arnold decide to leave Liverpool, which would clearly be a huge blow, a replacement will need to be found, with Caught Offside reporting that Red Bull Salzburg right-back Amar Dedic is a target for the Reds.
The Merseysiders “have asked for information on the situation” of the 22-year-old, with the report stating that he “looks an impressive talent and it seems he’s worked his way up Liverpool’s list of targets in that position, though other big names also remain in their sights.”
Our thoughts on Liverpool’s interest in Dedic…
Dedic jumps out as an eye-catching option for Liverpool, even though the more preferable option would be for Alexander-Arnold to spend the rest of his career at Anfield.
The Bosnian is a full-back with as huge amount of potential, with football talent scout Jacek Kulig saying of him last year:
“Amar Dedic with another fantastic performance in the Austrian Bundesliga. 21 years of age. With the lack of quality right-backs on the market, this guy should be worth A LOT of money. One of Salzburg’s biggest jewels.”
As mentioned, the hope is that Alexander-Arnold decides his future belongs at Liverpool, extending his stay in the process, but if the worst-case scenario does happen, Dedic could be a shrewd option, even though he isn’t a high-profile name.
He has been capped for Bosnia across five different age groups, including winning 15 caps at senior level, as well as making 87 appearances for Salzburg.
