Liverpool are believed to be interested in completing the signing of Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez, according to a fresh transfer rumour.
The Reds have a midfield stocked full of talent, with Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai invariably the first-choice trio for Arne Slot this season.
Meanwhile, Curtis Jones also represents a great option worthy of starting regularly, with veteran Wataru Endo and injured ace Harvey Elliott also important members of the squad.
Despite this, it looks as though Liverpool are still eyeing reinforcements in the middle of the park, with a report from Spain claiming that Lopez is a target.
The Reds are reportedly battling with Arsenal to seal the 21-year-old’s signature, having made his first La Liga start of the season away to Real Madrid last weekend, playing a key role in his side’s memorable 4-0 win at their biggest rivals.
Our thoughts on Liverpool signing Lopez…
Lopez looks like such an exciting young footballer with a big future in the game, with former Barca manager Xavi saying of him this time last year:
“I’m thrilled with him in general. He’s a valuable guy to us. He’ll be in this Barcelona team for years, and I don’t say that lightly. He’s mentally prepared, he’s having a good season, he’s got a terrific shot from distance. I’m happy with him and happy for him.
“It’s fundamental that Fermín has a spectacular mentality. He’s always listening, always thinking and I really like his mentality – when you tell him things, they go in and he applies them.”
In typical Barca fashion, Lopez is a class act in possession, enjoying a 91.5% pass completion rate in La Liga across five appearances this season.
The young midfielder has also won two caps for Spain at senior level, not to mention the fact that he scored six goals in as many matches for his country at the 2024 Olympics earlier this year.
Another midfielder arguably shouldn’t be seen as the most pressing area of the pitch to improve in for Liverpool for now, but if a player of Lopez’s potential is there to sign, they shouldn’t miss that opportunity.
