Liverpool are reportedly monitoring the progress of a “spectacular” young player, with Arsenal also believed to be in the mix to acquire his signature.
The Reds will surely be in the market for new signings next summer, if not in the January transfer window, following a quiet time of things in recent years.
While Liverpool are well-stocked in an attacking sense, having the luxury to call upon Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa, it looks as though they are eyeing another exciting talent.
According to Caught Offside, the Reds are considering making a move for Juventus teenager Kenan Yildiz alongside Arsenal, monitoring him “amid doubts” over Salah’s future, with the Egyptian superstar still yet to sign an extension at Anfield.
It is stated that he only recently signed a new deal at his current club, however, and appears to be happy there, so getting a move over the line may not be easy.
Our thoughts on Liverpool signing Yildiz…
Snapping up the most exciting young talent in Europe should always be something Liverpool aspire to do, so it is encouraging to see them in the conversation to sign Yildiz, even if nothing comes of it.
The 19-year-old has scored twice in Serie A and once in the Champions League so far this season, with Juve legend Alessandro Del Piero heaping praise on one recent strike, saying:
“Very good with the first touch and aiming at the opponent. He has a very precise and strong shot, he puts it where no one else can reach. A spectacular goal for how he thought it. Congratulations. He took the responsibility of wearing the number 10 shirt, he should be supported and waited for. He has qualities and he is showing what he should show off.”
Primarily a left-sided attacking player, it could be that Yildiz is actually seen as long-term competition for Diaz and Gakpo, rather than Salah, and his vast potential means that he could be viewed as a future superstar at Anfield.
He already has 16 caps to his name for Turkey, despite not yet even turning 20 years of age, so the Reds should be looking to strike a deal, should he want a new challenge.
