Liverpool are pushing the hardest to complete the signing of a player who Jude Bellingham has shown his admiration for in the past, according to a fresh transfer claim.
New signings have been hard to come by for the Reds in recent years, with some supporters critical of owners FSG for not always backing Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot, arguably holding the team back.
This summer, Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili were Liverpool’s only signings, with the latter not coming in until at least next summer, spending this season on loan at Valencia.
Money should be there to spend for the Reds and it looks as though they are eyeing a move for a player they have been linked with in the past.
According to a report from Spain, Liverpool are keen on signing Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni and are willing to pay as much as £66m for his services.
It remains to be seen whether the reigning Champions League holders will entertain the idea of him leaving, however, considering he has started seven of his side’s eight La Liga games this season.
Our thoughts on Liverpool signing Tchouameni…
Tchouameni is no stranger to Liverpool, having been looked at as a primary target before he chose to join Madrid from Monaco in 2022 instead.
The 24-year-old could be a phenomenal addition to Slot’s midfield, combining physical prowess with technical expertise, not only averaging 2.6 interceptions per game in the league in 2024/25 to date but also completing 92.4% of his passes.
Bellingham has shown his love for his Madrid colleague in the past, simply saying “what a player man” on social media, while manager Carlo Ancelotti has lauded him, too, saying: “Tchouameni is a fantastic defensive midfielder. At a defensive level, he is irreplaceable, he helps our defence a lot.”
It is hard to see Madrid moving Tchouameni on, considering his peak years are still ahead of him and he is a regular starter under Ancelotti.
If the situation suddenly changes and he falls out of favour, though, he could be a perfect option in front of Liverpool’s defence to give even more solidity in the middle of the park.
