Liverpool have been given a major injury boost regarding a key player, following a big update regarding his fitness on international duty.
The Reds aren’t back in Premier League action until next Sunday, with Chelsea making the trip to Anfield for what promises to be a mouthwatering clash.
Arne Slot has had injury concerns to contend with since his side’s 1-0 victory at Crystal Palace last weekend, with Alisson’s hamstring issue suffered at Selhurst Park ruling him out for around six weeks.
Meanwhile, Alexis Mac Allister was forced off at half-time in that game, having not wanted to risk making an injury concern worse, and it ruled him out of Argentina’s 1-1 draw away to Venezuela on Thursday evening.
Now, it looks as though the 25-year-old is fully fit, however, with This Is Anfield reporting that he has returned to full training alongside his colleagues, putting him in contention to face Bolivia on Wednesday.
Our thoughts on Mac Allister’s fitness latest…
This is fantastic news for Liverpool, considering Mac Allister is one of the most important players at the club, knitting things together so impressively in midfield, even being hailed as a “smart footballer” by Roy Keane.
The World Cup-winning ace may not have received the same level of plaudits as Ryan Gravenberch this season, but he has also been instrumental to the Reds’ success, shining alongside the Dutchman in a double pivot and averaging 2.6 tackles per game in the Premier League.
Mac Allister being back in training suggests that the injury suffered at Palace was only a minor one, and Liverpool surely wouldn’t allow him to play any part with his country if they had any fears about him.
The main question mark ahead of the Chelsea game will be whether the former Brighton man is fresh enough to start at Anfield, considering Argentina are playing in the early hours Wednesday morning.
It could be that Slot doesn’t feel Mac Allister has had enough time back in training in Liverpool to warrant a start, with the same also applying to Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez.
The fact that it is a Sunday afternoon game does give them more chance of featuring prominently, however, rather than if it was Saturday lunchtime, as was the case with Palace.
