Liverpool are believed to be showing a “strong interest” in signing a player backed to become “one of the best players in the world”, according to a new update.

The Reds have built one of the most formidable attacking units in Europe in recent years, starting with the legendary trio of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino under Jurgen Klopp.

Since then, Salah has been joined by the likes of Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa, while Diogo Jota has been a superb option ever since joining Liverpool back in 2020.

Despite this embarrassment of riches for Arne Slot, it looks as though the Reds could look to make a move for Lille and Canada star Jonathan David.

That’s according to InterLive.it [via Sport Witness], who report that Liverpool have “strong interest” in the 24-year-old striker, with Barcelona also keen on snapping him up.

Inter Milan are also pushing to complete the signing of David, who has grown into one of the most feared attacking players in Ligue 1 in recent times.

Our thoughts on Liverpool signing David…

David could be a fantastic option for Liverpool, although signing him would only make real sense if a current Reds attacking ace was moving on, given the depth already at Slot’s disposal.

The Canada international has scored 29 goals in 56 caps for his country, as well as netting 92 times in 197 appearances for Lille, while former youth coach Hanny El-Magrabi has backed him to become one of the world’s leading footballers, saying:

“I enjoyed coaching the person, not just the player. What impressed me most was him continuing to be the person that he was here and carrying that with him in Europe – leading by example. He can be one of the best players in the world in a very short time. The sky is the limit.”

The lure of Barca and Inter could be great for David, especially the latter, but Liverpool are a huge drawer in their own right, and the Lille ace could see Anfield as the perfect destination to find further levels and reach the vast heights predicted of him in his career.
