Liverpool reportedly remain in the hunt to sign Brentford attacker Bryan Mbeumo, but they aren’t the only Premier League club interested in snapping him up.
Until Mohamed Salah signs a new deal at Anfield, possible successors to the Egyptian King will naturally be lined up.
Mbeumo has been one such figure in recent months, having arguably matured into one of the Premier League’s top wingers, standing out as one of the first names on Brentford’s team sheet. He already has eight goals in nine league games this season.
It is a rumour that is refusing to go away, with a fresh report from Give Me Sport claiming that Liverpool are still keen on acquiring the Cameroonian’s signature.
Arsenal and Newcastle United are thought to be providing stern competition, however, with the Gunners “continuing to study data and scouting reports” on the right-sided ace, as they weigh up whether to make a move or not.
Our thoughts on Liverpool’s continued interest in Mbeumo…
It goes without saying that Salah signing a new contract before his current deal expires next summer is the preferred outcome for Liverpool, but if that doesn’t happen, Mbeumo stands out as a great option to replace him.
While the 25-year-old may not be the world superstar some Reds supporters would want to see come in, he has consistently proven his worth in the Premier League, registering 51 goal contributions (30 goals and 21 assists) in 107 appearances in the competition.
Meanwhile, former Watford striker Troy Deeney hailed him earlier this week, saying: “Every single time I watch Brentford I expect him to score now. It is a wonderful thing to have. A cool, calm penalty and also that cross that ended up going in, the decisiveness in the play and the decision to get on the ball and take on a couple of Ipswich players before delivering into the box.”
Mbeumo possesses Salah’s ability to cut inside from the right onto his preferred left foot, wreaking havoc with his pace, dribbling and end product, and he is still young enough to reach further levels in his career.
The Cameroon international could also see Liverpool as a better fit than Arsenal, considering Bukayo Saka has the right-wing position nailed down at the Emirates and is far younger than Salah, meaning he is less likely to go anywhere for many years.
