Liverpool are “desperate” to agree a contract extension with Andy Robertson, according to fresh comments from former scout Mick Brown.

There is so much focus on Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah currently, but other Reds players are also slowly coming towards the end of their current deals.

One such figure is Robertson, whose contract expires in 2026, and speaking to Football Insider, Brown claimed that Liverpool are “desperate” to extend his stay at Anfield:

“They want Robertson to commit to a new deal. Tsimikas has been more involved this season and Slot likes to rotate those two, but they still feel he’s a valuable presence on and off the pitch.

“We’ve spoken about their priorities in terms of getting their best players tied down. But Robertson has gone under the radar in that respect. There are question marks about Van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold and Salah, now there are questions about Robertson, and all of a sudden they’re in serious trouble.

“Worst-case scenario, they lose all three of those three at the end of the season. Then, if Robertson leaves next year, that’s the majority of their leaders and big names gone.

“He’s been such an important player for them over the years, and even if his role is becoming less crucial, he would be a huge miss if he left. So from what I’ve heard, they’re desperate to get him tied down because they don’t want to risk being in that difficult situation where they’re losing their experiences heads.”

Our thoughts on Robertson’s Liverpool future…

It is common knowledge that Robertson hasn’t been at his best this season, losing his place to Kostas Tsimikas at times, but handing him a new deal still makes sense.

Granted, he is now 30 years old and arguably not quite the marauding force he once was, but he can remain an excellent squad player over the next three or four years, bringing experience, quality, and a winning mentality to Arne Slot’s side.

A younger left-back needs to come in as first choice next summer – Tsimikas isn’t consistent enough to take that honour – but Robertson still has plenty left to offer.

The Scot will know that he has been lacking top form recently, but he is a strong character and will be desperate to silence the doubters.
