Mohamed Salah once again showed what a priceless figure he is for Liverpool against Aston Villa, and a fresh update has dropped regarding his Anfield future.

The Reds won 2-0 at home to Villa on Saturday evening, with Salah registering a goal and an assist to continue his remarkable start to the season.

It means that Salah now has eight goals and six assists in the Premier League in 2024/25 to date, not to mention one and four in the Champions League respectively.

It is common knowledge that the 32-year-old’s Liverpool future still hasn’t been sorted yet, however, with his contract expiring at the end of this season.

Salah clearly wants to be appreciated enough by FSG, in terms of the wages and length of extension they are willing to offer him, and it remains to be seen if all parties can reach an agreement in the coming months.

Now, a new update from Football Insider has claimed that the Egyptian’s new contract is “increasingly unlikely” to be sorted until later in the campaign, leaving the saga ongoing.

There are “yet to be a breakthrough in talks”, even though some “discussions” have taken place, and Liverpool fans will keep having to wait for the time being.

Our thoughts on this latest Salah update…

This isn’t the update that Reds supporters will want to hear, not only because they want Salah’s future sorted as soon as possible, but also because it has the potential to act as a distraction in the Premier League title race.

The Liverpool legend has been magnificent so far this season, outlining his status as arguably Arne Slot’s most important player, and he looks at his peak still.

Frankly, the Reds should be willing to give Salah whatever he wants, even if it means FSG moving away from their preferred approach of not handing new long-term deals to players in their 30s.

Liverpool’s iconic No.11 can remain at the highest level for at least another three years, especially given how he looks after himself off the pitch, so it would be a disaster to see him leave in the summer of 2025.
