Liverpool have been linked with a move for Eintracht Frankfurt attacker Omar Marmoush, and now a fresh update has emerged regarding the situation.
The 25-year-old has made a flying start to the season for Frankfurt, scoring 11 goals in as many matches in the Bundesliga, standing out as one of the best players in the division.
Marmoush has been mentioned as a transfer target for Liverpool numerous times in recent months, with the Egyptian seen as a possible replacement for compatriot Mohamed Salah.
With the 32-year-old claiming there have been no conversations with the Reds about a new deal being offered to him, it looks as though a successor may need to be found in the coming months.
Despite this, Frankfurt sporting director Timmo Hardung has played down the rumours to winwin [via This Is Anfield], saying there is yet to be contact with Liverpool over the signing of Marmoush:
“No, we have not had any contact with Liverpool regarding Marmoush, no negotiations or contacts. I know the people there but there is nothing, there are no contacts with any club regarding the player.
“We are in constant contact with Omar of course, and also his agent. He is our player so it is not difficult to talk to him, and that is all I can say regarding the negotiations and the current situation.”
Our thoughts on this latest Marmoush update…
It has felt as though Marmoush is a leading transfer target for Liverpool, so this update does come as something of a surprise, with Frankfurt manager Dino Toppmoller heaping praise on him, saying:
“He’s in outstanding form at the moment, and he’s feeling comfortable. That’s the key to his success these days. He feels comfortable with this club and the group, and is thus a key component for us.”
The 25-year-old is such an exciting player, being capable of shining both centrally and out wide, although the fact that he is often a left-sided winger suggests he may not be the perfect Salah replacement.
Hopefully, this all becomes irrelevant anyway, with Liverpool’s legendary No.11 instead deciding to stay put, signing an extension in the process.
