The future of Mohamed Salah is almost a daily talking point currently and reliable journalist Paul Joyce has provided a new update on him.

After a significant drop in form during the second half of last season, not helped by some injury problems, some were quick to start writing Salah off as a world-class player.

He has roared back into top form in 2024/25 to date, registering 14 goal contributions (eight goals and six assists) in just 11 Premier League appearances, scoring memorable strikes against the likes of Bologna, Arsenal and Brighton.

Salah is yet to sign a contract extension at Liverpool, however, along with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, causing constant concern among the fanbase ahead of their deals expiring in 2025.

According to The Times‘ Joyce, claimed that the 32-year-old would likely earn far more than many realise, should his demands be met in a new deal:

“A solution is more complicated than the simple remedy of ‘give him what he wants’. For a start very few people beyond Salah, his agent Ramy Abbas, and the Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes know what that figure is and the terms that support it.

“If they did, that would, at least, better inform opinions. The incentives built into his existing deal mean that the often-quoted figures of £350,000-400,000 a week could well be conservative estimates.”

Our thoughts on this latest Salah update…

This isn’t the breakthrough update that many Liverpool fans will want to hear, but it does explain why the situation surrounding Salah is complex.

It isn’t a case of the Egyptian simply being given the wages he wants, with so much more included in his contract, meaning an extension would be hugely expensive for the Reds.

Salah isn’t showing any signs of slowing down, however, and if he can avoid serious injury, there is no reason why he won’t remain at an elite level well into his 30s, with Van Dijk describing him as a “special” footballer.

If FSG don’t give Salah what he wants, leading to him moving on at the end of this season, Liverpool’s owners will be dealing with a lot of unhappy supporters.
