Liverpool are believed to have enquired about the availability of Lyon attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki, according to a fresh transfer update.
The Reds could be on the lookout for new signings in the January transfer window, or next summer for that matter, with further reinforcements needing to be added to Arne Slot’s squad.
While Liverpool may be flying high at the top of the Premier League table, an element of freshness still needs to be brought in, following several quiet windows in recent years.
According to a report from L’Equipe, the Reds are eyeing a move for Lyon ace Cherki, having been linked with a move for the 21-year-old in the past.
He is only reportedly valued at £20.8m by his current club, with his contract expiring in the summer of 2026.
Our thoughts on Liverpool signing Cherki…
Cherki is an exciting young player with an enormous amount of potential, so Liverpool should be considering completing the signing of the Frenchman.
While still a maturing talent who is raw in aspects of his game, he still has two goals and three assists in seven starts in Ligue 1 and the Europa League combined this season.
Meanwhile, football talent scout Jacek Kulig has lauded Cherki’s qualities as a footballer, lauding him as both “incredible” and a “difference-maker” back in 2022, following an impressive run of form.
Kylian Mbappe has shown his admiration for him in the past on social media, back when he was only 16 years of age, and former Lyon manager Fabio Grosso has said of him:
“I was aware of Rayan Cherki before his performance in the Espoirs [France Under-21s] match. He possesses extraordinary potential, and everyone hopes he can translate that potential into consistent performance. Is he a special player? He’s a player; he’s not a special player. He’s a player like any other, albeit with some additional qualities.”
This all highlights why Liverpool should consider Cherki as a standout option to sign in the coming months, with his ceiling extremely high.
He has scored 11 goals in 20 caps for France’s Under-21s, which is a brilliant return, and his ability to thrive in both central and wide attacking positions is an added string to his bow.
