Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has provided an encouraging update on the futures of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

Tying down the iconic Reds trio feels as important as any new signings that arrive in the coming transfer windows, with supporters hoping they all sign on the dotted line.

For now, the situation remains up in the air, with Alexander-Arnold’s future arguably the most worrying amid constant links with Real Madrid.

Speaking to the media in his pre-Brighton press conference on Friday [via This Is Anfield], Slot claimed that talks are “ongoing” regarding extensions for the Liverpool trio:

“For me the contract situation could become a problem if the players don’t perform as well as they do at the moment. Of course it’s not sure that if, if, if they perform not as good any more that it has anything to do with their contract situation.

“At the moment all three of them are in a good place, all of them perform really, really, really well and there are ongoing discussions, as Virgil said, with the people he has to talk with, and that’s not me as you know. I talk with him to him about other things.

“Let’s wait and see but all what he said is completely right in that he doesn’t exactly know what the future will be as long as he doesn’t sign the contract yet.”

Our thoughts on Slot’s latest contract update…

This update could have been more negative, so Liverpool fans should take it as a good sign that things are progressing well with Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk and Salah.

All three remain arguably among the first four or five names on Slot’s team sheet, perhaps along with Alisson and Alexis Mac Allister, so retaining them is vital.

Supporters will be split when it comes to who they would most like to keep hold of, but they are all massive players in their own right.

Alexander-Arnold is the creative genius from right-back, Van Dijk continues to stand out as the world’s leading centre-back and Salah is still a machine in the final third, scoring and assisting at will.
