There is contract talk galore at Liverpool and journalist Fabrizio Romano has dropped a significant update regarding an extension for one Reds hero.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are all in the final year of their respective deals at Anfield, with none agreeing new contracts to date.

There have also been claims regarding the futures of Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson, and now another player has been mentioned.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Romano said that Liverpool could also turn their attention to ensuring that Luis Diaz extends his stay, following his midweek hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen:

“Let me tell you today that I would not be surprised to see Liverpool, after Ibrahima Konate, who is going to be the next one to extend his contract, negotiating a new deal, also with Luis Diaz.

“Liverpool want to try to make a new deal happen with Lucho. So let’s see what’s going to happen there. Let’s wait, because now obviously Liverpool have some priorities, Salah, Van Dijk, and obviously Trent Alexander-Arnold, and then we know they want to extend the content of Konate.

“It will happen, it is a matter of time, but Lucho could be one of the next ones to see what’s going to happen in terms of talks.”

Our thoughts on Diaz signing a new deal at Liverpool…

Back in the summer, there were some Liverpool fans who wouldn’t have been unhappy to see Diaz move on, having received criticism for a lack of elite-level end product.

This season, the Colombian winger has silenced his doubters impressively, however, scoring nine goals in all competitions, as well as bagging two assists.

Diaz’s hat-trick at home to Leverkusen on Tuesday summed up the confidence he is playing with in 2024/25, and while his contract doesn’t expire until the summer of 2027, adding another few years to it could make sense.

That being said, it could arguably be sensible for Liverpool to wait for the time being to see if the 27-year-old can retain this level, rather than it being a brief spell of great form.

The current signs are so promising, however, and the hope is that Diaz is slowly coming into the peak years of his career.
