A new report has claimed that Liverpool could choose to sell goalkeeper Alisson at the end of this season, in what is a shock update.
The 32-year-old has been one of the biggest stars of the modern era at Anfield, joining from Roma in 2018 and immediately making the Reds more of a force.
Alisson’s arrival coincided with Liverpool winning the Champions League in his first season then the Premier League title the following year, and many believe he is the greatest goalkeeper in world football.
The Brazilian is currently out injured, with Caoimhin Kelleher filling in expertly, but his return to the fold now shouldn’t be too far away.
Now, a massive update has emerged regarding Alisson’s future, however, with The Boot Room reporting that Liverpool are “open” to selling him next summer, as well as Kelleher.
Giorgi Mamardashvili could then arrive as the Reds’ new No.1, having spent this season on loan at Valencia.
Our thoughts on Liverpool selling Alisson…
This would be a massive error by Arne Slot and those in charge of transfers at Liverpool, considering Alisson is among the best ‘keepers of his generation, and still has many years left in him.
Admittedly, some of his injury absences have started to become problematic, but he is still available more often than not, and Virgil van Dijk has waxed lyrical over him, saying:
“The biggest quality, is how he is as a person and how important he is for the group. Obviously on the pitch his qualities are there for everyone to see – his contribution, the saves, the leadership, that’s all very important. But away from the pitch is just as important, the qualities he has. He is a big, big leader in the group and someone a lot of players look up to.
There is some sense in Liverpool allowing Kelleher to move on in 2025, especially with Mamardashvili coming in, but Alisson needs to stay put for at least another couple of years.
A decision will need to be made nearer his 2027 contract expiry date, at which point he will be approaching 35 – Mamardashvili could be first-choice by then, too – but for now, keeping hold of him is a no-brainer.
