Liverpool are reportedly contemplating signing Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni in a surprise swap deal involving Ryan Gravenberch.
The Reds could barely have asked for a better start to life under Arne Slot, topping the Premier League table by eight points going into a massive clash with Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.
There have been so many impressive performers for Liverpool throughout the campaign to date, from Virgil van Dijk to Mohamed Salah, and Gravenberch has been excellent in a double pivot.
According to Defensa Central, however, the Reds are considering selling the Dutchman in the coming months, in order to bring in Madrid ace Tchouameni.
The France international was linked with a move to Liverpool constantly back in 2022, before joining Madrid, and it looks as though their interest still hasn’t gone away.
Our thoughts on Liverpool selling Gravenberch in swap deal…
This would be a huge mistake by Liverpool, considering Gravenberch has undoubtedly been one of the Reds’ star players in 2024/25 to date.
The 22-year-old has shone so much in a more disciplined midfield role alongside Alexis Mac Allister, not missing a minute in the Premier League and being praised by Gary Neville, who said that the has been the “biggest surprise” this season. Meanwhile, former Reds hero Steve Nicol said of him:
“He’s been sensational. The amount of times that he breaks up the play because of his starting position and his decision-making, when to step in and win the ball and when to sit back and wait, has really surprised me.
“It’s shocked me, to be honest. I was looking at Gravenberch as someone Slot would look to move on but in a very short space of time he has completely changed my opinion and, I’m sure, plenty of other opinions as well.”
At this point, it would be an almighty shock if Liverpool looked to move Gravenberch on, considering he looks like one of Europe’s most exciting midfielders.
Tchouameni could be a brilliant signing in his own right, but if the Reds are desperate to bring him in, it can’t afford to be at the expense of their in-form current hero.
