Real Madrid are believed to be “increasingly confident” of completing the signing of Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold, according to a fresh report.

There has been so much speculation surrounding the future of the 26-year-old, whose current Reds contract expires at the end of this season.

There is real concern from Liverpool supporters that Alexander-Arnold could choose to move on and enjoy a new challenge, having already achieved so much for his boyhood club.

The Reds’ vice-captain has been continually linked with a switch to Madrid, with the reigning Champions League holders eyeing him as the long-term successor to Dani Carvajal at right-back.

According to Caught Offside, the La Liga giants are “increasingly confident” of signing Alexander-Arnold in 2025, acting as a worry for Liverpool.

The report states that both the Reds and Madrid have “made contract offers” to him, and it seems he now has to choose between the two clubs.

Our thoughts on this latest Alexander-Arnold update…

Alexander-Arnold does arguably feel more likely to leave Liverpool than Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah currently, with his older teammates perhaps more content to stay on during the autumn of their career.

The right-back could feel that he has done all he can in a Reds shirt, winning the Premier League and Champions League, among other trophies, and the lure of Madrid is great for most players.

Liverpool should do all they can to ensure that they persuade Alexander-Arnold to stay, offering him great wages, with Jurgen Klopp heaping praise on him during their time together, saying:

“He has been a fantastic player from the first day. An outstanding talent and he has turned into a world-class football player. It is rare as a manager that you are part of a journey for such a long time.”

These coming weeks and months feel so important, but hopefully, Alexander-Arnold realises that Liverpool remain perfect for him for the rest of his career.

His boyhood hero Steven Gerrard was tempted by a move away to Chelsea during the 2000s but stayed put, and to see Alexander-Arnold do the same would feel more important than any new signing that comes in.
