Liverpool have Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpoong on their shortlist of potential signings in 2025, according to an update from journalist Christian Falk.

The Reds’ transfer business has generally been quiet in recent years, with supporters often being left frustrated by FSG for not giving managers enough money to spend.

In fairness, Liverpool have had a superb squad for some time, though, with Arne Slot inheriting a fantastic group of players from Jurgen Klopp.

Speaking to Caught Offside, Falk claimed that Leverkusen wing-back Frimpong is a target for the Reds, with his versatility appealing to them:

“True: That Jeremie Frimpong is on the shortlist at Liverpool. He’s a very special player. He can play many positions and that makes him so interesting for Liverpool. There are no concrete talks yet at the moment, but he’s in their sights.

“The head coach at Liverpool, Arne Slot, is Dutch, and it’s evident he has a good relationship with Dutch players. There is another thing worth mentioning: Trent Alexander-Arnold said it’s very good for him to have a coach who is explaining to him very clearly how to play his position. This shows Slot likes to have some tactical variation.

“Xabi Alonso does this as well; Frimpong is not always playing the same way at Bayer Leverkusen. If you want to change your system during a match, he can be a secret weapon.

“Frimpong has always tended to show this, especially against Bayern Munich; he was always a key player when he started or came in off the bench. This makes him so interesting for his potential suitors. However, a release clause of €40m is a lot.”

Our thoughts on Liverpool signing Frimpong…

Frimpong is a top-level player who has enjoyed a brilliant time of things in a Leverkusen shirt, winning the Bundesliga title with Xabi Alonso’s side last season.

The Dutchman is arguably one of the best right wing-backs in Europe, bagging 10 goals and assists apiece in the league over the past one-and-a-half seasons, so it is understandable why Liverpool like him.

Frimpong would naturally be viewed as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, however, given his role in the team, so it would only make sense for Liverpool to sign him if their vice-captain decides not to sign a new contract at Anfield.
