Liverpool are believed to be interested in completing the signing of Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies next year, according to a fresh transfer rumour.

The Reds could have to look for a new left-back shortly, with doubts creeping in over the long-term worth of Andy Robertson, who has now been at Anfield for seven years.

Now 30, the Scot is playing at a good level, but he arguably doesn’t quite possess the energy levels he used to, not to mention his pace dropping off a little, too.

According to The Athletic‘s Mario Cortegana, Liverpool are eyeing a move for Bayern star Davies, who is considered one of the world’s leading left-backs.

The report states that “multiple industry sources” believe the Reds “have expressed an interest in signing the player and that they would be the most plausible Premier League destination for him.”

That said, “a move to Anfield is considered an unlikely outcome at present and senior Liverpool sources have strongly denied any interest in a deal.”

Our thoughts on Liverpool signing Davies in 2025…

Davies would be an exceptional long-term successor to Robertson and perhaps even the strongest possible to replace him at left-back.

The 24-year-old has played at such a high level for Bayern in recent years, winning five Bundesliga titles, one Champions League crown and four Canadian Footballer of the Year awards.

Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand has heaped praise on Davies, not least because of his electrifying pace, saying: “He is the Usain Bolt of football. His trajectory has been phenomenal. He is now comfortably one of the best left-backs in the game. What I love is his desire at both ends of the field. He utilises his pace to devastating effect.”

While Liverpool fans will be excited by the prospect of Liverpool signing Davies next summer, it is worth reiterating that Reds sources have shot down the idea of a move coming to fruition.

For that reason, it feels unlikely for the time being, but for all the potential players to replace Robertson, the Canada international should be right at the top of the list of perfect options to come in.
