Liverpool are “considering” recalling youngster Kaide Gordon from his loan spell at Norwich City, according to reliable journalist Paul Gorst.
The 20-year-old burst onto the scene as an exciting teenager at Anfield, being seen as one of the most talented academy prospects in years.
Gordon has suffered injury problems that have stunted his development, however, and back in the summer, it became clear that he wasn’t an important part of Arne Slot’s plans.
For that reason, the English forward was loaned out to Championship side Norwich, but things haven’t gone to plan there yet, with only one start coming his way in the league this season.
He has featured as a substitute a further seven times in the league, with just one goal scored.
According to Gorst on X on Thursday, Liverpool are now looking into the possibility of bringing Gordon back to the club and ending his spell at Norwich early:
“Liverpool are considering recalling Kaide Gordon from his loan spell with Norwich City after a disappointing half-season. Talks with the Championship club planned in January, no decision yet made.”
Our thoughts on Liverpool recalling Gordon…
It is a huge shame to see Gordon struggling to have a positive impact at Norwich, during a season in which it was hoped he would benefit from more minutes away from Liverpool.
If things aren’t going to plan at Carrow Road, however, it makes more sense for the Reds to recall him, potentially loaning him out somewhere else during the January transfer window instead.
Gordon is such a big talent, even if he has gone backwards in recent years, with Joe Gomez a huge admirer, saying of him back in 2021:
“Every time he trains with us he applies himself properly. He does extra things that wouldn’t even have crossed my mind when I was his age. Hats off to him, and I’m sure he can go on to have a great career. The platform he has, there’s no ceiling to it.”
It is easy to forget that Gordon is still only 20, so writing him off would be extremely knee-jerk, but he needs to kick on now or risk falling further adrift at Liverpool and in his career in general.
