Mohamed Salah is now “close” to extending his stay at Liverpool and signing a new deal, according to a hugely encouraging claim from abroad.

The 32-year-old has enjoyed a sensational season for the Reds so far, with 13 goals and nine assists already coming his way in the Premier League.

On Saturday, in the 2-2 draw at home to Fulham, Salah brought up 100 assists in a Liverpool shirt, sending an inch-perfect cross into the box for Cody Gakpo to head home.

The Egyptian’s future at Anfield still hasn’t been sorted, however, along with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, although he has made it clear numerous times that there has been a lack of contact overall.

Recent reports have suggested that Liverpool have sent a contract offer Salah’s way, and according to Marca, he is now “close” to agreeing an extension on Merseyside.

The update adds that “the most absolute pessimism has been passed on to total optimism”, suggesting that Liverpool’s No.11 is about to extend his stay for the foreseeable future.

Our thoughts on this latest Salah contract news…

This is an update that is likely to cause a huge amount of excitement among the Liverpool fanbase, with Salah showing this season why losing him in 2025 would be disastrous.

He looks as good as ever, as his recent numbers show, and there arguably isn’t a better right-sided attacking player in the world than him, not only because of his ability but also due to his winning mentality.

Arne Slot knows how vital it is for him to retain the services of Salah, in terms of his chance of trophy success as head coach, and he lauded his player earlier this month, saying:

“It’s difficult for me to predict the long-term future, but the only thing I can expect or predict is that he is in a very good place at the moment. He plays in a very good team that provides him with good opportunities and then he is able to do special things.”

Keeping hold of Salah is arguably even more important than Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk, although opinion may be split on tha matter, and if he does sign a new contract, it will be better news than any new signing that comes in.
