The Saudi Pro League is obsessed with several players in Europe and while Mohamed Salah has long since been one of them, so too is Darwin Nunez according to the latest Fabrizio Romano update.
This season has been both frustrating and disappointing for Darwin Nunez. The striker has a lot of enthusiasm and passion but things just haven’t worked out for him under Arne Slot.
The Urugyuan thrived under Klopp even if he didn’t always display the consistency the German manager would have liked. Klopp’s style of play suited Nunez with more space to break into.
Under Slot, with the Dutchman opting for a more controlled version of the heavy metal football on display under Klopp’s reign, Nunez has struggled to find the back of the net and found himself on the bench 14 times this season.
So interest in Nunez from the Saudi Pro League has caught the attention of some Liverpool fans. The Athletic‘s James Pearce and the Mail‘s Lewis Steele have denied talk of bids for Nunez but the interest from Saudi Arabia is genuine.
Fabrizio Romano provides the latest on Darwin Nunez transfer interest
Fabrizio Romano reports that although there haven’t been any bids from Saudi for Nunez, they have an “obsession” with the 25-year-old striker.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “In terms of interest from Saudi, they have some obsessions of players they’d love to bring there.
“From Saudi, they have some obsessions. Vini (Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jnr) is a dream target but also remember the position they have for Mo Salah and Darwin Nunez.
“Liverpool, this winter, were very clear to keep the player but the interest is still there.”
Should Liverpool sell Darwin Nunez?
I’m torn. I genuinely love Nunez but given the money Liverpool spent to bring him to Anfield, they would be wise to seriously consider any major money offers for him.
The only caveat to that stance is that if Arne Slot has a vision for Nunez, he should be given the chance to work his magic with the entertaining forward.
Many were calling for Ryan Gravenberch to be sold after last season and now he is the most important midfielder at Slot’s disposal.
A top manager can have that effect on a player so I would be interested to see if Slot can have a similar effect on Nunez and if so, he could still become a truly top player.
The manager recently said this: “If you look back at the goals he scored for us, I remember the one against [Aston] Villa when he went around the goalkeeper on a fast break, that is his main strength – he has other qualities as well – but we are still working on getting him in the best possible positions against a low block.
“That involves the right timings, the right crosses, the right position to start from and making the right run.”
