Johan Bakayoko caused Liverpool a lot of problems on Wednesday evening as PSV Eindhoven beat the Reds 3-2 and the winger has now suggested he could join the Reds.

While Liverpool did field a weak, makeshift defence with Andy Robertson at left centre-back, it must be said that PSV were exceptional and were, a few dubious refereeing decisions aside, fully deserving of the win.

They are the only team to have stopped Liverpool from winning a Champions League game this season and one of the main reasons why is Johan Bakayoko.

You can argue Robertson and Jarell Quansah should have done better than to gullibly dive in but Bakayoko’s fake shot before the touch that set him up for the goal was fantastic. The finish was sublime as well.

He certainly caught the eye and proved why Liverpool have been linked with him.

Johan Bakayoko boldly claims “I definitely think that I can join Liverpool”

In December, Caught Offside reported that Liverpool were interested in a January move to sign Bakayoko. It never materialised but if it had the Reds might still have a 100% record in the Champions League.

But the forward has now boldly claimed that he believes he could make the step up from PSV Eindhoven to Liverpool.

“I definitely think that I can join Liverpool,” Bakayoko said.

“We can be happy that we won against big names, but they didn’t come with the strongest team either. It’s a shame that they didn’t come with the strongest team.

“I’m in a good place. I feel the confidence of the entire club. As long as that is there, I feel good, whether I play well or badly.

“I would not make such a move to Saudi Arabia now, no. I would not do it.”

Is Bakayoko ready for the move to Liverpool?

Bakayoko is a tremendous talent and has eight goals and three assists to his name this season although there is plenty of room for improvement.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see him become a top target for the Reds as his profile is a perfect fit for the FSG transfer profile. He’s only 21, can play multiple attacking positions, is blessed with pace and trickery on the ball, and is a willing defender.

Liverpool are not short on attacking quality though so it would likely require an exit to make space for him.

Federico Chiesa joined the club in the summer and has barely had any game time such is the depth of attacking options available to Slot.
