Liverpool are willing to listen to offers for Darwin Nunez in the summer transfer window, according to former scout Mick Brown.

The Uruguayan moved to Anfield in the summer of 2022, arriving as an exciting big-money addition from Benfica who would add more firepower to the squad.

While Nunez has enjoyed some great moments in a Liverpool shirt, including a dramatic last-minute winner away to Nottingham Forest last season, he has also flattered to deceive.

Too often, his finishing has lacked precision and his link-up play has been inconsistent, and he increasingly feels like comfortably the Reds’ fifth-best attacking player.

Speaking to Football Insider, former Manchester United chief scout Brown claimed that Liverpool will listen to offers for Nunez at the end of the season, saying:

“It’s not one that would happen in January. Slot wants to keep his squad strong because they’re still challenging for the Premier League and Champions League, and for that you need depth.

“I’m told they’ll listen to offers, though, because they could make some money from him. He’s one of four of five players who can play in that forward line, but he’s fallen down the pecking order. He’s too hit and miss, that’s his problem, he works hard and he’s impressive physically but he’s too inconsistent in front of goal especially.

“I think Liverpool will want to make some good money if they opt to sell him, because then they can buy someone new who is maybe a bit more consistent.”

Our thoughts on Liverpool selling Nunez this summer…

Allowing Nunez to leave this summer makes plenty of sense for Liverpool, with the 25-year-old not improving enough since arriving at Anfield two-and-a-half years ago.

The striker’s commitment cannot be questioned, and his fiery personality makes him a popular figure among supporters, but the bottom line is that he can be improved upon now, despite being described as “efficient” by former Reds midfielder Steve McManaman.

While keeping Nunez wouldn’t be the end of the world, by any means, much more is needed in the coming months if he is to persuade Arne Slot that he is worth persevering with.
