Liverpool are considering using Ben Doak as part of a “package” to sign a “clinical” Premier League player, according to an update from journalist Scott Wilson.
Doak was sent out on loan to Middlesbrough during last summer’s transfer window, with the Reds seeing it as a good opportunity to give him more minutes away from Anfield.
The Scot has enjoyed an impressive loan spell at the Championship club, scoring two goals and registering six assists in the competition this season, but his long-term future at Liverpool is up in the air.
Doak has been linked with a permanent move away from Anfield during the current transfer window, and now, The Northern Echo‘s Wilson has taken to X to claim that Bournemouth could sign him as part of a deal to see Antoine Semenyo go the other way:
“TRANSFER LATEST: More doubt cast on Ben Doak’s Boro future as Liverpool consider using the on-loan winger as part of a package for Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo.”
Our thoughts on a Doak-Semenyo swap deal for Liverpool…
This is such a tough call for Liverpool to make, considering how much promise Doak has as a young footballer, possessing so much natural threat out wide.
That said, if Arne Slot can’t see a long-term future for him at the club, the Reds will have to consider cashing in on him soon, receiving a healthy fee and using it on reinforcements.
Not only that, but Liverpool would of course be bringing in a top-quality attacking player in Semenyo, with Lewis Cook heaping praise on his Bournemouth teammate, saying:
“As a team, we knew the quality he has and we saw that last year. He’s got to just keep working hard – being aggressive and being clinical. He’s got a lot better at running back and helping out the team too. He’s a powerful lad and has all the ability in the world. Hopefully he can continue to show that.”
Semenyo has scored five Premier League goals this season and stood out as a key man for an impressive Bournemouth side and he also bagged a goal and assist apiece in the 5-1 win over West Brom over the weekend.
