A fresh report has claimed that Liverpool have been given a potential boost in their efforts to sign Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane in January.

The German joined Bayern from Manchester City back in 2020 and he has enjoyed great success, winning three Bundesliga titles in the process.

Sane is out of contract at the end of the season, however, meaning he will be able to move elsewhere on a free transfer, assuming he doesn’t sign an extension at the Allianz Arena.

There is also a chance that Bayern could look to offload him this month, however, in order to receive a fee, and that’s what a new report from Football Insider claims.

They state that a bid in the region of £20-25m could be enough to prise the winger away from the Bundesliga giants, allowing them to make money on him before he departs for free.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Sane in the recent past, and with doubts still persisting over Mohamed Salah’s future, they could be alerted to the situation.

Our thoughts on Liverpool signing Sane this month…

In truth, it is hard to picture the Reds striking a January deal for Sane, considering they already have a wealth of attacking options in their squad.

Granted, a long-term replacement for Salah needs to be lined up, in case he doesn’t sign a new deal at Liverpool, and Pep Guardiola has lauded his former Manchester City player in the past, saying:

“He’s not ready to play in the middle now, you have to be so good to control the spaces. Maybe in the future. Sane is the best in the world playing out wide. I’d prefer to use him where he is strongest, he’s an incredible player. I’m not saying he can’t (play in middle) but at the moment we have better players to do that job.”

Sane is a wonderful footballer when he is fit and firing, wreaking havoc out wide, and it is easy to see what a formidable footballer he could be under Arne Slot.

That said, he also turns 29 years of age on Saturday, so it would be hard to justify paying him huge wages when he could be about to drift past his peak.
