Liverpool are believed to have “concrete” interest in Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, according to a fresh transfer update.
The Reds now have the chance to bring in reinforcements this month, with the January transfer window kicking into gear.
As things stand, it appears likely that Liverpool will decide against adding to Arne Slot’s squad, however, instead waiting until the end of the season.
That doesn’t mean that players aren’t being linked with moves to Anfield, however, and the Merseysiders are thought to be eyeing up a move for Gibbs-White.
That’s according to Football Insider, who state that Liverpool’s interest in the England international is “concrete”, being described as a “top target” in both January and the summer.
The report adds that the Reds are “keen to sign a playmaker who can link the play and provide a goals impetus from an advanced midfield position”, even though they already have Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott in that area of the pitch.
Our thoughts on Liverpool’s interest in Gibbs-White…
There is no doubt that Gibbs-White has grown into an exceptional player at Forest, maturing into such an impressive midfielder in all facets of his game.
The 24-year-old ‘s performances this season have ensured that his side sit third in the Premier League table, with three goals and assists apiece coming his way. He has also been lauded by Stuart Pearce in the recent past, with the Forest legend saying:
“Someone sent me something the other day saying he’s the first England player since me in 1997! For the club, it’s fantastic kudos and just shows where they are going again.
“He’s done brilliantly well – last year I don’t think he did as well as the season before, but he’s an exciting talent, the manager knows him well and has worked with him well. He’s won things with England before, so I’m absolutely delighted – I’ve obviously got links with the club but he’s certainly a talent.”
There is an argument to say that Liverpool don’t need any new midfielders, with centre-back and left-back more important positions to focus on, but Gibbs-White should be seen as a great option if there is a chance of signing him.
Still only 24, he should only develop further in the coming years and Slot may feel that he would add even more quality, dynamism and end product in attacking midfield areas.
