Liverpool are believed to have made a move to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich, according to an intriguing new transfer claim.

The Reds have had a quiet January transfer window so far, not making any new signings, with Arne Slot seemingly happy with the squad at his disposal.

It has been relatively low-key on the transfer front at Liverpool for some time now, which isn’t to say that no new faces have come in, but there will be a need for reinforcements at the end of the season.

According to Caught Offside, the Reds are pushing to sign Kimmich on a free transfer in 2025, with the 29-year-old out of contract at the end of this season.

They are among a host of clubs who are interested in snapping up the Germany international, who is weighing up whether to sign a new deal at the Allianz Arena or not.

Our thoughts on Liverpool signing Kimmich…

Kimmich has arguably been one of the standout midfielders of his generation, enjoying so much success with Bayern and also proving to be an elite right-back option, too.

The German has been playing at an incredibly high level for many years, with Jose Mourinho waxing lyrical over him back in 2020, saying:

“I see him as a top right-back, left-back, centre-back, No.6, No.8, No.10… he has the qualities to be anything!

“I think he looks to me, very intelligent related to football, very intelligent, understands the moments of the games and understands the difference between positions and understands what he has to do here and what he has to do there. I think he’s phenomenal, an absolutely phenomenal player.”

While Kimmich would add undoubted experience and quality to Liverpool’s midfield, he is now 29, so he wouldn’t necessarily be coming in as a long-term option for Slot.

It would, therefore, make more sense for the Reds to sign a younger alternative in the middle of the park – someone who can be a mainstay for six or seven years, rather than a relatively short-term fix.

Liverpool signing Kimmich would still be exciting, should Slot like the idea of having him, but it would be a surprise if he joined later this year.
