Liverpool are said to be in pole position to complete the signing of Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, according to journalist Mark Douglas.
It increasingly feels like the Reds need to focus heavily on bringing in the new left-back in the summer transfer window, with Andy Robertson dropping well below his usual standards this season.
The Scot has been a wonderful servant for Liverpool since arriving from Hull City back in 2017, but there are now clear signs that he is past his best.
Meanwhile, Kostas Tsimikas has been a solid squad player down the years, but he isn’t at the level to be a key starter for a team of this stature.
A host of left-back options have emerged for Liverpool in recent weeks and months, one of whom is Kerkez, who has been an influential player for Bournemouth this season.
According to inews‘ Douglas on X, the Reds are in “pole position” to snap up the Hungarian, but they will have to wait until the summer to get their man:
“Milos Kerkez on lfc, mcfc & mufc shortlist. But Reds in clear pole position in the summer. Bournemouth would drive a hard bargain if they sell – and no chance of selling in January.”
Our thoughts on this latest Kerkez to Liverpool update…
This is hugely encouraging for Liverpool, with Kerkez already a strong Premier League player at the age of just 21, starting every one of Bournemouth’s games in the competition this season,
Meanwhile, former teammate Mat Ryan has lauded his ability, saying:
“Milos is a great boy. A crazy dude, in a good way. He is always positive and smiling. Hopefully he can develop even further in England and become even more mature. He is aggressive, powerful and has so many qualities. A unique skill set. Bournemouth is going to get stronger because of him. Milos still has a great career ahead of him.”
It remains to be seen if Liverpool would be willing to part ways with Robertson or Tsimikas at the end of the season but if the former is happy being a squad player moving forward, retaining his services would arguably make the most sense, given his vast experience and winning mentality.
