Liverpool have missed out as Brighton swoop in yet again to sign a top young talent in the form of 19-year-old Stefanos Tzimas from FC Nurnberg.

Brighton’s scouting department has won the battle for another top young talent as the Seagulls have announced the signing of Tzimas from Bundesliga 2.

He has signed a contract until 2029 but will remain in Germany until the summer but for the likes of Liverpool, who were also interested, it comes as a blow.

TBR Football claims that the Reds enquired about signing the 19-year-0ld but have ultimately lost out.

Arne Slot is not exactly lacking for exciting young talent after handing Rio Ngumoha his senior debut this season. Not to mention Jayden Danns and Trey Nyoni who debuted last season under Jurgen Klopp’s guidance.

All the same, it’s always disappointing when a promising youngster joins another club especially given how much emphasis Liverpool place on fostering youth talent before promoting them to the first team.

Liverpool’s squad is young and promising

Beyond the real youth talent, Liverpool have a lot of players in their early twenties and so even though the likes of Alisson Becker are in their thirties, there are several players still in the infancy of their careers.

Harvey Elliott (21), Conor Bradley (21), Ryan Gravenberch (22), Tyler Morton (22), Jarell Quansah (22), Dominik Szoboszlai (24) and Curtis Jones (24) are all still young and learning but already contributing to the senior side to varying degrees.

It’s one of the biggest gifts that Klopp gave to Slot. He made sure to leave behind a squad with a balanced age range and that may be one of the lesser-mentioned factors in this Liverpool squad’s success under the Dutch coach so far.

While the likes of van Dijk, Robertson, Salah and Alisson are all veterans of the game, their maturity is balanced by the exuberant and energetic younger players in the squad.

It may also be a factor in the relative health of the squad with Slot not having to contend with too many absentees in his first season at the squad.

Liverpool will also be scanning the market for other players they believe can match the standard currently on show at the Merseyside club.

Slot has shown so far a willingness to continue with Klopp’s commitment to trusting the youth available to him as we saw with several young players involved in the 3-2 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League last week.

Bradley, Elliott, James McConnell and Jayden Danns all started while Amara Nallo (who had a brutal debut), Trey Nyoni and Tyler Morton all came on. Beyond them, Trent Kone-Doherty, Isaac Mabaya, Kieran Yusuf Morrison and Harvey Davies were all on the bench as well.

While some of them didn’t get a chance to play, it would have been a hugely valuable experience to travel away in Europe as a senior player.
