Curtis Jones reveals that he has been struggling with an MCL injury but after grabbing an assist against Bournemouth, he is on his way to recovering from the injury.
Liverpool continued their imperious Premier League form with a 2-0 win over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday. The match was fiercely contested by the home side but the Reds’ quality and control were enough to secure the victory.
Mohamed Salah scored both goals as his unbelievable season continues, with the second assisted by Curtis Jones. The Scouse midfielder came on from the bench to replace Alexis Mac Allister after the Argentine picked up a yellow card and committed a few fouls in quick succession.
Jones came in and played quite well. His 94% pass accuracy provided the control Liverpool needed at a time when the game was becoming very stretched but when Salah converted his pass, the result was all but assured.
Curtis Jones pleased with his performance v Bournemouth
Jones was not initially expected to be included in the Liverpool squad that made the trip to Bournemouth after missing the Reds’ last two fixtures having picked up an injury against Lille.
Given that he had little match rhythm coming into the game on the South Coast, it’s no surprise the midfielder is happy with how it turned out.
“It’s huge. Away from home the fans as well can smell a little bit of blood, I wouldn’t say that we took our foot of the gas but a team like them they’re going to find a way to come back into the game and that’s what they did, they came close,” he told LFCTV.
“But I came on the pitch, I got an assist as well and I changed the game, so happy as well with that.”
Update on knee injury that kept Jones out
“I had a small injury on my MCL,” the midfielder said.
“I’m back after 10 days out and I’ve come back and impacted the game and that’s what I’m trying to do.”
Liverpool need Jones fit and healthy as they head into the most pressurised part of the season.
Next up is a Carabao Cup semi-final at Anfield on Thursday and while it’s not certain that the Englishman will play, Arne Slot needs every player to be ready and sharp.
Liverpool can accomplish great things this season if luck continues to favour them and Jones has an important role to play.
