Liverpool are leading the Premier League title race and appear unstoppable with Ian Wright now claiming only a “calamitous mistake” could derail their push to win the title this season.

The Reds turned in a dominant display at the Vitality Stadium to dispatch a very impressive Bournemouth side.

Two goals from Mohamed Salah were enough to secure the three points before Arsenal thrashed Manchester City 5-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Yet nothing has changed at the Premier League summit. The weekend began with Arne Slot’s side six points above the Gunners and it ended the same.

With a game in hand away to Everton on Wednesday next week, Liverpool have the chance to go nine points clear if they’re successful. Simply avoiding defeat would be a good result but a win would place them in a dominant position heading into the business end of the season.

Ian Wright says Liverpool will only be stopped on Premier League quest by a “calamitous mistake”

Speaking on ‘The Kelly and Wrighty Show‘, the former Arsenal striker said Liverpool have too much control and confidence to be derailed on quest to lift the Premier League again.

He said: “They just seem so in control, this is why people are saying they look so comfortable, they look like they’re in go-mode.

“I can’t see who is going to make them stumble. It’s going to have to be some calamitous mistake or something from Liverpool.

“I just can’t see it.”

Liverpool fans are watching history being made before their eyes

Since the 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in mid-November, Liverpool haven’t lost a game in the Premier League with 14 wins and five draws since. The only two games the Reds have lost in all competitions since November came in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg defeat to Spurs and in the Champions League to  PSV last week.

Liverpool have 15 games left to play in their mission to win the Premier League and if Arne Slot can guide his players past the litmus test that is the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, confidence will be sky high.

Everton are nine points above the relegation zone and will fight tooth and nail to be able to boast of denting Liverpool’s title credentials. But the form that Liverpool are in and Slot’s apparent ability to come up with the perfect tactical changes mid-game should shine through.

However, defeat would give Arsenal the belief that if they stay close enough to Liverpool they could pinch the title late in the season. The North London outfit visits Anfield on the 10th of May which is looming as a potential title decider if things go awry for the Reds.

Liverpool very much have the advantage and the benefit of being in front is that they only need to focus on their games.
