James Pearce reports that Liverpool have no regrets over their January transfer window approach after the Reds made no new signings but sent a handful of talents on loan.
Arne Slot arrived at the club in the summer and much to the consternation of most Liverpool fans, he only brought in Federico Chiesa while Giorgi Mamardashvili will join the club in the 2025 summer window.
And Liverpool have been in incredible form despite the lack of business. So it didn’t come as much surprise that the Reds didn’t take any action to bring in new faces in January.
And it seems that was the plan all along.
Liverpool are well-known at this point for their willingness to wait for the right signings and act when opportunities arise to sign key names.
Liverpool have no regrets over quiet January transfer window
James Pearce reports for the Athletic from the club’s perspective, claiming that “internally”, Liverpool do not regret not making any moves to strengthen the squad already available to Slot.
Pearce wrote: “It was part of the club’s strategy to sit tight during this season’s winter window rather than a case of the owners being unwilling to sanction investment.
“Their self-sustaining business model means Liverpool need to be shrewd with how they use their resources and there will certainly be incomings come the summer.
“Those craving the sight of Liverpool buying from a position of strength this winter were left disappointed. But, internally at the club, there are no regrets. They didn’t see a need for reinforcements.
“This squad has built the perfect platform to secure silverware this season and they are being backed to finish the job over the next four months.”
Slot has a powerful and talented squad available to him but injuries will be key
Slot has a wonderfully diverse squad with a unique mix of athleticism, technical quality and a blend of profiles that has allowed the thriving Dutch coach exert control on the Premier League and Champions League.
So far, Liverpool have been fortunate not to have too many serious injuries and if they can keep the core personnel in the side fit, they will likely be able to sustain their title challenge.
It will be interesting to see if they can manage competing on all fronts with the Reds likely to go deep into the FA Cup and if they beat Spurs on Thursday, they will have a Carabao Cup final to contend with.
And then there’s the Champions League. Slot dominated Europe in his first group-stage campaign with Liverpool strongly tipped to advance to the latter stages in the Champions League as well.
